there's a great old cemetery in downtown Los Angeles with tombs going back to the Spanish American war. Spent a Saturday morning drawing in a handmade sketchbook -- the paper has twigs, oatmeal, small leaves, all sorts of things in it, so the ink is very spontaneous -- you're never quite sure what it's going to do.
