there's a great old cemetery in downtown Los Angeles with tombs going back to the Spanish American war. Spent a Saturday morning drawing in a handmade sketchbook -- the paper has twigs, oatmeal, small leaves, all sorts of things in it, so the ink is very spontaneous -- you're never quite sure what it's going to do.

Out at Delta Flats last Saturday with a few matte painters from Dreamworks. What started out as a 10x12 panel ended up as a 6x8 after I decided the bigger painting just wasn't working the way I wanted it to. C'est la vie.

We had the chance to paint with landscape artist Clyde Aspevig out at Malibu Creek State Park last weekend -- what a day! In between watching Clyde turn out two really nice little paintings I was able to work on this one as the light slid into the west.

Sometimes when you arrive late for a painting session you have to make do with whatever spot is left. This actually turned out to be a good angle to paint from. Lots of nice textures with the fur, velvet, wood and skin.

My wife and I recently had a baby, Andres, so I haven't had much of a chance to sit in front of live models. But here is an image I've been working on. Head of a woman, based on the live figure studies at Dreamworks. Here is what it looks like before it is rendered.

a great dessert from Porto's Bakery -- one of the best Cuban bakeries in the LA area. One of the benefits of painting dessert is eating the subject matter when the painting is done. Hmmm. Still good.
